Challenge

Challenge

The 12 de Octubre University Hospital is one of the nation’s leading institutions in public health and digital transformation. With multiple interconnected buildings, thousands of staff members, and highly sensitive critical care areas, the hospital needed an access control system capable of ensuring security, operational efficiency, and full traceability, without interfering with patient care.

To move toward a 100% digital hospital model, the facility chose TESA ASSA ABLOY’s SMARTair® as the centralized platform for intelligent access management throughout the hospital complex.

Key Requirements:

Managing access in a large-scale hospital environment is an ongoing challenge:

  • Thousands of staff members, patients, and visitors constantly moving through the facility
  • Critical areas with varying security levels
  • The need to eliminate manual key management and duplication
  • 24/7 operation without disrupting patient care
  • Compliance with regulations, audits, and security and data protection standards

The hospital needed a flexible, scalable solution that was fully integrated with its digitalization strategy.

Solution

SMARTair® – Intelligent Electronic Access Control

The 12 de Octubre University Hospital implemented SMARTair® as its access control system to completely replace mechanical locks and centralize security management.

The solution enables:

  • Access via secure electronic credentials (RFID cards, mobile devices, or digital keys)
  • Centralized and remote management of access permissions in real time
  • Immediate assignment, modification, or revocation of access based on profiles, schedules, and zones
  • Complete logging and traceability of every access event
  • Integration with video surveillance, alarms, and corporate databases
  • Wireless installation requiring no construction work, without interrupting hospital operations

SMARTair® thus became a key pillar of the hospital’s digital transformation process.
